18 wheeler tires are generally large and comprised of many different rubber and steel components. The weight ranges from about 100 to 120 lbs depending on the size and intended usage.

A typical semi trailer has 2 axles with 4 tires on each axlet, for a total of 8 tires. However, this can vary depending on the way the trailer may be configured for specific needs. For example: there are some trailers that have more than 2 axles, in order to carry heavier loads.

Changing a semi truck tire may cause physical harm, therefore Michelin recommends that all semi truck tire services be completed by trained tire professionals, using manufacturer-approved tools and operating methods.

Big rig truck tires have tread wear indicators just like car tires with the same minimum tread depth of 2/32". However, most truck fleets will replace their tires with more tread on them than the minimum – 5/32" remaining is a common depth. This is to ensure the tire casing is in good condition for retreading.
