Mining Rigid Dump Truck
Michelin MEMS Lite Mining Tire Pressure Monitoring System
A simple, budget-friendly TPMS designed for rigid dump trucks below 150 tons
What Is Michelin MEMS Lite?
Michelin MEMS Lite, part of the Michelin Earthmover Management System (MEMS) portfolio, is a simple, budget-friendly tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for mining operations that periodically monitors tire pressure and temperature without adding hardware to the trucks.
The solution combines Michelin MEMS tire sensors with fixed reading stations installed at the mine site to capture and transmit tire pressure and temperature data as vehicles pass.
Designed for rigid dump trucks between 100 and 150 tons using 49 to 51-inch tires, Michelin MEMS Lite provides an entry point into Michelin’s mining TPMS portfolio and can be upgraded to Michelin MEMS 4 for additional functionality.
Why Monitor Tire Pressure and Temperature in Mining?
Tires play a critical role in mining vehicle performance and represent a significant part of a mine’s operational budget. Tire performance can be affected by factors including speed, load, tire condition and mine conditions.
Monitoring tire pressure and temperature can help mining operations identify tire-related issues earlier and support safer, more efficient equipment operation.
Monitoring tire pressure and temperature can help:
- Support mine safety and tire performance
- Identify potential tire-related issues earlier
- Reduce maintenance costs through earlier intervention
- Support vehicle productivity and operational efficiency
How Michelin MEMS Lite Works
Michelin MEMS Lite works with tires regardless of brand and combines proven, long-lasting Michelin MEMS tire sensors with fixed reading stations installed at the mine site.
As equipped vehicles pass a reading station, tire pressure and temperature data is captured periodically and transmitted to connected devices for remote monitoring. The system provides alerts to help mining teams identify tire conditions that may require attention.

Michelin MEMS Lite vs. Michelin MEMS 4
Michelin developed the industry’s first tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for surface mining equipment in 2006. Today, the Michelin Earthmover Management System (MEMS) portfolio offers tire monitoring solutions designed for different mining operation needs.
Michelin MEMS Lite is designed as an entry-level solution that can be upgraded to Michelin MEMS 4 as monitoring needs evolve.
When to Consider Michelin MEMS 4
Michelin MEMS 4 expands beyond the periodic monitoring provided by Michelin MEMS Lite with continuous monitoring and additional location, mapping and reporting capabilities.
Michelin MEMS 4 includes:
- Continuous tire pressure and temperature readings instead of periodic captures
- GPS geolocation and geofencing
- Speed monitoring and severity mapping
- More detailed and extensive reporting options
