Michelin has a long history of tire innovation for the mining industry, from introducing its first radial earthmover tire in 1959 to developing the mining industry's first 63-inch tire in 1995.

Today, Michelin continues to develop mining tire technologies to support the evolving needs of mining operations and equipment, including electric and autonomous vehicles.

This approach includes developing more renewable and recycled materials, improving energy efficiency during tire use and working with mining customers and industry partners to develop end-of-life solutions for mining tires.

Michelin uses Life Cycle Assessments to evaluate environmental impacts from raw materials and manufacturing through transportation, tire use and end of life. Michelin's assessments show that 70% to 90% of a tire's environmental impact occurs during use, making energy efficiency an important part of reducing the overall impact of mining tires.

Michelin is also working toward integrating 100% renewable or recycled materials into its tires by 2050, with the goal of increasing circularity while maintaining tire quality and performance.

Advancing End-of-Life Mining Tire Solutions


Michelin is working with mining customers and industry partners to develop end-of-life tire solutions that can be adapted to local markets and operating conditions.

In Chile, Michelin established its first mining tire cutting and shredding facility in Antofagasta. Michelin has also supported recycling initiatives in Peru and Brazil and continues to explore partnerships in other mining regions around the world.
