FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Semi truck tires are generally large with many different rubber and steel components inside them. The weight ranges from about 100 to 150 lbs depending on the size and intended usage.
The life of a semi truck tire is generally longer than a car tire, in terms of miles. However, the actual mileage will vary greatly depending on how the truck is used, quality of the tires and condition of the truck.
A long haul truck (mostly driving on the interstate) may get 150,000-200,000 miles on a set of tires. A truck that travels mostly through the city could get half that, about 75,000-100,000 miles.
- In terms of time, a long haul truck could wear their tires out in 1 year, while a truck in the city could take 4-5 years to fully wear out their tires.
A typical long haul semi has 18 tires – 10 on the tractor and 8 on the trailer (which is why they are sometimes referred to as 18-wheelers). However, this can vary depending on the way the tractor and trailer may be configured for certain load needs. For example, many tractors don't have a double rear axle and therefore, have just 6 tires.
